Skin Cancer on Black Skin – What It Looks Like, Signs, and More

What are the types of Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer can be classified into three types:

  • Basal cell carcinoma
  • Squamous cell carcinoma
  • Melanoma

Squamous and Basal cell carcinoma are popular and accessible for doctors to treat. Melanoma is a severe type of skin cancer that can spread fast and must be treated with aggressive methods.

Basal cell carcinoma

Basal cell carcinoma is the most popular type of skin cancer. It occurs when the body produces many squamous cells (a skin cell that is round in every part of the body).

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is diagnosed chiefly in Spanish and Black people. It is a pearly, shiny, and dark growth. This type of cancer is often located in one part of the body. The most common parts are:

  • Shoulders
  • Head
  • Back
  • Neck

The symptoms of basal cell carcinoma are:

  • A smooth patch with a transparent bump
  • Fresh or strange growth on the skin
  • A lesion that bleeds voluntarily
  • A growth that contains jelly-like substances

In most cases, black people experience a darker and less pearly form of basal carcinoma cell.
