Testicular Cancer: Symptoms, Diagnosis & Treatment

Surgery

Surgery would involve the removal of one or both testicles to prevent the tumor from spreading.

Your surgeon will first administer general anesthesia. Then, your doctor will make a small incision in the groin and remove the testicles.

Removing one testicle does not usually influence one’s sex life or fertility, but removing both testicles means that the male will not be able to conceive naturally.

Other effects of removing the testicles include:

  • Low sex drive
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty getting an erection
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Hot flashes [4]

To help ease these issues, your doctor may prescribe testosterone supplements, either as gel, a patch, or an injection.

It is possible to restore the testicles by having a prosthesis. This will involve your surgeon implanting this in the scrotum. It is filled with salt water.

If you have had surgery in the early stage, you may not need any further treatment.
