Ulcerative Colitis and Its Risk Factors and Causes

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), alongside Crohn’s disease (CD) [1], which leads to inflammation and formation of ulcers, in the colon and rectum which are components of the large intestines. Ulcerative colitis is a deadly disease with no cure. However, it can be managed properly.
Ulcerative colitis has no known cause. However, it can be regarded as an autoimmune disease [2]. Abnormalities in the immune system allow immune cells to attack intestinal bacteria and cause inflammation in the walls of the intestines.
