6 Symptoms of Prediabetes

Thirst

Individuals with prediabetes may experience excessive thirst [2]. Apart from prediabetes, there are various causes of excessive thirst. Some examples of the causes of excessive thirst include eating salty or spicy foods, diarrhea, vomiting, burns, and significant loss of blood.

If the frequent excessive thirst is unquenchable, it may be a symptom of severe medical conditions like dehydration, diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, dipsogenic diabetes insipidus, and sepsis. Dehydration is a result of lacking the proper amount of fluids for the body to function appropriately.

When diagnosing and treating excessive thirst, the doctor may ask questions about the awareness of the symptoms, weight gain or weight loss, presence of fever, bleeding or swelling, and significant dietary or lifestyle changes.
