Diagnosis

This health condition can be diagnosed by checking the amount of blood level present in the bloodstream. There are various tests used to check sugar level, they are:

  • Oral glucose tolerance test: in this test, the blood sugar level is first observed after an overnight fast. A drink containing sugar is taken, then the glucose level is observed again. This test is repeated three times after an hour interval.
  • A1C test: this test can be observed without an overnight fast. It is also known as a glycated hemoglobin test. It shows the level of glucose in the hemoglobin and the amount of protein in the erythrocytes. It can be used to measure the sugar level of the individual for the past two to three months.
  • Fasting plasma glucose test: this test is conducted after eight hours without food or water. It is advised to be conducted early in the morning.
  • Random plasma glucose test: this type can be conducted at any time of the day and it is also used to check the amount of sugar in the blood.
