How Do I Know If I Have Diabetes? – Diabetes Types & Symptoms

Early signs of Type 2 Diabetes

  1. An increase in thirst: Diabetes often induce frequent urination in affected individuals, and this can cause the body to lose more water/fluid than normal. Over time, this can trigger dehydration and cause an individual to feel more thirsty than normal.
  2. Frequent urination: Whenever the blood glucose levels are higher than normal, the kidneys will attempt to eliminate these excess sugar by filtering it out of the blood. This can lead to a person having to urinate more often, particularly at night.
  3. Constant hunger: People with diabetes sometimes don’t get enough energy even if they eat enough food. Food is broken down by the digestive system into simpler units (glucose), which the body can use as fuel. In people with diabetes, not enough of this glucose travels from the bloodstream to the cells of the body.

As a result, people with type 2 diabetes sometimes feel increasingly hungry, even if they have just recently eaten.

  1. Fatigue: Type 2 diabetes can affect the energy level of a person and cause them to feel very tired. This tiredness is due to the lack of sugar that travels from the bloodstream to the cells of the body.
  2. Blurry Vision: When there is excessive sugar in the blood, this can destroy tiny blood vessels in the eyes, which can cause blurred vision. This blurred vision can occur in one or both of the eyes and can come and go. [6]

This condition is known as neuropathy, which can worsen over time and lead to more severe complications if a person fails to get treatment.

    1. Dry mouth and itchy skin: Since the body is using the fluids in the body to make fluids, there is less water for other things. Affected individuals often feel dry mouth and dehydrated. Also, the skin may also get itchy due to dryness.
