What Is Type 4 Diabetes?

Causes of type 4 diabetes

Type 4 diabetes is a new discovery and is still being studied, so there is not yet any concrete information about what causes it. A 2015 study with mice showed a connection between the condition referred to as type 4 diabetes and excess in immune cells called regulatory T cells. There is also a theory that is linked to the aging process, but studies are still being done to prove this.

Symptoms of type 4 diabetes

The symptoms of type 4 diabetes are the same as other types of diabetes. However, your doctor might find it difficult to diagnose it as type 4 diabetes. This is because unlike other types of diabetes, type 4 diabetes appears in people with moderate weight. Common symptoms include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Increased hunger
  • Increased thirst
  • Sores that don’t heal
  • Frequent urination
  • Fatigue
  • Unintentional weight loss

These symptoms are also linked to other health conditions, so it may not always indicate diabetes. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is important that you book an appointment with your doctor. Your doctor will run a diagnosis on you, to review your symptoms, certain tests will be done. Only then will your doctor be able to tell what condition you are suffering from.
