Stay hydrated

Several studies have shown that low fluid intake is a major cause of constipation [2]. The total amount of fluid you consume comes from the foods you eat, beverages, and plain water. It is important to drink as much water as possible to make sure you get the required fluid to maintain a healthy gut. If you live in a warm climate or you exercise regularly, you may have to consume more water. You may also have to consume more amounts of water if you feel sick.
You can also take herbal teas and other non-caffeinated beverages like seltzer water to meet your fluid intake requirements. Fruits and vegetables contain high amounts of water. Doctors recommend adding fruits and vegetables such as broccoli, peppers, cucumber, oranges, apples, and peppers to your diet to maintain a healthy fluid intake.
