Fibromyalgia Treatments: Ways to Alleviate Pain

Analgesics, Anxiolytics, and Anticomiciales

These are medicines that reduce pain. They are used from paracetamol [4] to associations of paracetamol plus opioids, even opioids. The treatment of pain and other symptoms of fibromyalgia generally does not improve with the use of simple painkillers or anti-inflammatory drugs, often prescribed by doctors who are not familiar with the disease. This s why strong painkillers are used I combination with other methods.

These are medicines that relax the muscles and modulate/induce sleep and improve anxiety. They are used frequently in FM for these reasons. When symptoms associated with inadequate sleep are exacerbated, the isolated use of drugs that induce or perpetuate sleep may not be sufficient, and it is mandatory that the patient takes measures to improve sleep hygiene, such as adequacy of the place where they sleep, with less noise and clarity, avoid eating food or drinks that make sleep worse before bedtime, among other measures.

These are drugs that are used to treat seizures [5]. They are used in FM as they also have an analgesic effect.

Pregabalin [6], an alpha-2-delta calcium channel ligand, is approved for the treatment of neuropathic pain and was the first drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia.
