Anyone can develop gallstones, but the risk seems to be higher in some people. Those who run a higher risk of having gallstones are:

  • Women (especially pregnant women).
  • People with a family history of gallstones.
  • Persons above 40 years of age.
  • Obese people.
  • Native Americans and Mexicans.
  • Diabetic patients
  • Sedentary workers who don’t get enough exercise
  • People who use birth control pills
  • Persons on high cholesterol or fat diet.
