7 Triggers of Heart Palpitations

Strenuous Physical Activity

Intense physical activity such as running or other exercises can cause your heart to flutter. These activities require a lot of effort, making your heart work harder than it normally does.

For most people, the palpitations come before or after [3] they start exercising, or when they pause the strenuous activity. This is because exercise brings up your body’s adrenaline levels. When you stop exercising, the adrenaline level takes a while to come back down. It is during this period of increased adrenaline your heart starts to pound more rapidly. The palpitations typically come down as the level of adrenaline decreases.

Palpitations don’t usually happen during exercise. If you often experience palpitations during exercise or along with other symptoms after exercise, see a doctor.
