Tachyarrhythmia – An Overview

Diagnosis for Tachyarrhythmia

There are several texts that can be done to evaluate and elevated heart rate. This will help check for the cause and what triggered your tachyarrhythmia. Dome diagnostic tests Include:

      • Electrocardiogram (ECG): An ECG is a recording of the electrical activity in your heart. It involves placing electrodes on your chest which send signals through wires to a machine that records the rhythm and rate of your heart.
      • Holter monitor: this is a wearable device that can detect an arrhythmia any time during the period you wear the device. It is usually recommended is an ECG does not catch a tachyarrhythmia.
      • Cardiac event monitor: This is a small device that you can clip to a belt or keep in your pocket for about 2 to 4 weeks. You are to immediately place the monitor on your chest when you feel a tachyarrhythmia to capture a brief ECG reading.
      • Implantable top recorder: This device helps record your heart’s activity like an event monitor, but it is implanted under your skin. The device operates with a remote which you can use to operate it when the arrhythmia occurs, or you can program the device to automatically record arrhythmia when it occurs.
      • Mobile cardiac telemetry: this is a live arrhythmia monitor device that is worn continuously to pinpoint irregular rhythms. They are programmed to deliver data to you or your doctor immediately through a mobile app. An example is a Apple watch.

Some other tests and factors that might be used to assess your condition includes:

      • Blood glucose
      • Blood count
      • Electrolytes and urea
      • Drug screening
      • Pregnancy test
      • Arterial blood gas

During diagnosis, your doctor will review any other symptoms you are having, as well as personal family history. Your healthcare provider will also ask questions like how long it lasts when it occurs and what activity you were performing before it happened.
