Tachyarrhythmia – An Overview

Causes and risk factors of Tachyarrhythmia

There are different possible triggers to tachyarrhythmia, some may be harmless, and it can also be due to serious medical issues. Anything that stresses the heart muscle can be the cause.

Conditions that can cause a rapid heart rate include:

      • Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS): POTS [4] describes a group of neurological conditions in which the body sends abnormal symptoms to the heart and brain when you change positions.
      • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome: Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome [5] is a congenital heart condition in which the heart has an extra electrical pathway. This condition requires immediate medical attention.

More common risk factors of tachyarrhythmia include:

      • Age
      • Anemia
      • Diabetes [6]
      • Sleep apnea [7]
      • Thyroid disease [8]
      • Stress
      • Family history
      • High blood pressure
      • Excessive alcohol intake
