Carotid Artery Disease: Symptoms, Causes, Treatments And More

What Is Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)?

A TIA happens when there is little or no blood flow to the brain. It also occurs when a clot briefly blocks an artery that supplies the brain. People with TIA may have the same symptoms of stroke. However, the symptoms only last for a few minutes or a few hours and then they reduce.

A TIA is referred to as a medical emergency, because it is impossible to predict whether it will progress into a major stroke. If you or someone you know feels any of the mentioned symptoms, you should get emergency help. Immediate treatment can save your life and increase the possibilities of a full recovery.

Research ahs shown that people who experience a TIA are 10 times more likely to have a major stroke than a person who as not had a TIA.
