Stress Reduction

Excess stress can activate the herpes virus, bringing them out of dormancy. When patients reduce the amount of pressure, cold sores are very difficult to exist. Medication, frequent exercise, and staying away from stress help treat cold sores. Besides activating the herpes virus, stress can also have other adverse effects on the body (headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, depression, arthritis, anxiety, diabetes, and asthma). It causes the body to release cortisol which is made by the adrenal gland. [7] Stress can also harm the mental health of patients.
Ice
Ice helps ease the discomfort and irritation associated with cold sores; they do not reduce the duration of an outbreak. Patients can apply a cold pack to the sores for temporary easing. Get an ice cube, wrap it in a bag or paper towel, and place it on the lips where the sore spots are. Applying ice cubes repeatedly for two to three days can cause a significant reduction in pain and swelling that accompanies the sore. Patients can also try warm compresses.
