Side Effects of Acute Myeloid Leukemia Treatment in Children

Many cancer treatments cause side effects. This is because while the treatment is eliminating the cancerous cells, normal cells are also being damaged.
Some of the main side effects include:
- Hair loss.
- Loss of appetite and weight.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Reduction in the number of blood cells produced by the bone marrow [7], which can cause anemia.
Most side effects are brief, and there are ways of diminishing them and supporting your child through them.
For children diagnosed with AML, it is necessary to consult your medical doctor, to start treatment immediately, as further delay might cause more severe health conditions.
