Mast Cell Leukemia: Facts To Know

Example Treatment Course

A study was done in 2017 about a man in his 50s with mast cell leukemia that got into remission. Remission means the cancer was no longer seen in the body after treatment.

The man got chemotherapy with the following drugs

  1. 1mg/kg 2-chloro-deoxy-adenosine every 24 hours for 7 days
  2. 20 mg dasatinib two times a day

Upon receiving this chemotherapy, the man showed improvement. However, after 2 months his symptoms got worse. He received another set of chemotherapy with these drugs:

  1. 1 mg/kg 2-chloro-dexoy-adenosine every day
  2. 8 mg/k busulfan every 6 hours for 4 days
  3. 60 mg/kg cyclophosphamide for 2 days

After receiving his second round of chemotherapy, he received an allogeneic bone marrow transplant. When the study was released, he was in remission for 2 years. The man needed drugs to reulate chronic graft versus host disease. This disease happens when the body takes the transplanted cells as foreign elements and fights them.

The results of this study seemed promising, but more research must be done to fully understand MCL.
