What Is Leukemia?
Leukemia is a blood cancer caused by an increase in the number of white blood cells in your body. The number of white blood cells become more than that of the red blood cells and platelets, which your body requires to stay healthy. The extra white blood cells don’t function properly.
Several types of leukemia exist and they can result in different issues. You might not observe any signs in the initial stage of some forms. However, you will observe the following in severe cases:
- Weakness or fatigue
- Bruising or bleeding easily
- Fever or chills
- Infections that are severe or keep coming back
- Pain in your bones or joints
- Weight loss
- Night sweats
- Shortness of breath
- Swollen lymph nodes or organs like your spleen
