Signs & Symptoms of Hepatitis A

Light-colored stool

Most health problems that affect the liver or bile ducts can turn the color of your feces pale [10]. Hepatitis A reduces or tampers with the proper functioning of the body system, by lowering the number of bile salts that help the body digest food and absorb nutrients. If the infection affects the gallbladder, it interrupts the flow of bile into the intestines. This disorder causes abdominal pain and can also turn your stool into a pale color.

When you start to experience any of the above symptoms, you are advised to seek immediate medical attention. These symptoms are specific to hepatitis A alone, so it may also be a sign of other health conditions. These signs and symptoms usually aren’t evident until the virus has remained in the body for up to a few weeks. In some cases, there are no signs at all,

These symptoms are usually mild and resolve on their own in a few weeks. In rare cases, the infection may cause severe damage to the liver, resulting in an illness that may last for several months.

The first set of symptoms may occur fifteen to fifty days after coming in contact with the virus and are usually sudden. Asides from the common symptoms, children suffering from hepatitis A may experience cold, sore throat, and cough. These symptoms can easily be assumed to be caused by the flu.

Elderly persons aged fifty and above may suffer long-term liver damage. They are at a high risk of low experiencing the most severe case of the disease called fulminant hepatitis A infection. Less common symptoms of this infection include bleeding or easy bruising. It may also cause confusion and concentration loss.
