The Signs and Symptoms of Liver Disease

Weight Loss

This is a decrease in body weight. The liver helps in the metabolism of fat in the human body, it produces bile, which breaks down fat while also functioning as a filter to clean toxins out of the blood, this the process that aids the renewal of energy in the body. This condition may make it difficult for the human body to process nutrients, leading to weight loss. A rapid weight loss of more than 3.5 pounds per week can worsen liver disease.

Jaundice

Jaundice is a yellow discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes due to abnormally high levels of bile pigment in the bloodstream. Sometimes high levels of bile pigment also known as bilirubin may be attributed to inflammation, other abnormalities of the liver cells, or blockage of the bile ducts. Jaundice is usually the first sign of liver disease and sometimes the only sign and symptoms of liver disease. You should visit your doctor once you start to notice yellowish-colored eyes or skin.
