Treatment Options for Autoimmune Hepatitis

Mycophenolate Mofetil

Mycophenolate mofetil is a highly recommended immunosuppressant drug used to treat autoimmune hepatitis. It works by reducing the intensity of the immune system response. It is widely used by organ transplant recipients.

It is used as a second-line of treatment for autoimmune hepatitis when there is no improvement from the first-line treatment. A small 2017 study showed Mycophenolate mofetil to achieve remission in about 60 percent of participants when used as a second-line treatment.

Some side effects of Mycophenolate mofetil include headache, nausea [5] and trouble sleeping. You should also know that taking an immunosuppressant drug weakens the body’s ability to fight off infections.
