Chemical Pneumonia
Unlike the most well-known types of pneumonia, chemical pneumonitis [9], as it is also known, is not caused by bacteria or viruses. But yes, by inhaling aggressive substances to the lung, such as:
-
Pesticides;
-
Smoke, such as vapor from electronic cigarettes;
-
Pollution;
-
Chemical products in general.
These substances end up in the lungs, causing inflammation [10] in the airways and alveoli – small structures that carry oxygen into the blood. This type of lung inflammation facilitates the action of bacteria, allowing the disease to progress to overlapping bacterial pneumonia.
