How Is Pulmonary Fibrosis Treated?

Oxygen Therapy

Oxygen therapy is typically used when a patient’s oxygen levels drop below 88 percent [5]. It does not stop the damage to the lung, but it provides relief from fatigue and shortness of breath. Using an oxygen canister makes breathing easier, especially during exercise, and can help lower blood pressure in the right chambers of the heart. It can also help prevent complications caused by low levels of oxygen in the blood.

Some people prefer to use oxygen canisters while when they sleep or only during exercise within the home. This is because some find it inconvenient to carry the canisters around, but the benefits are worth it. If you have concerns about carrying oxygen, speak to your doctor about it.
