Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation [7] is designed to help patients with chronic lung diseases manage their condition better. This usually involves physical exercises meant to improve endurance, breathing exercises for greater lung efficiency, education about the disease, nutritional counseling, and help managing anxiety and stress.
Overall, the goal of this is to help pulmonary fibrosis patients come to terms with their condition and learn how to function better without feeling extremely breathless. Many times, this involves joining support groups.
Treatments for pulmonary fibrosis concentrate on managing the condition. Sometimes this can be done using medication or a combination of other therapies, but lung capacity will continue to fall as the condition progresses. In cases where all treatment options fail and a person’s condition continues to deteriorate, doctors may suggest palliative care at home or in a hospice.
