Symptoms of Lyme Disease

Insomnia

Lyme disease patients may suffer sleeping difficulties. If the bacterium spreads to the brain, it can cause a host of sleep disturbances, like insomnia and hallucinogenic dreams. In some patients, severe fatigue caused by Lyme may affect your sleeping patterns. People who don’t observe siestas may find themselves napping during the day, or sleep one or more hours longer than usual.

Mental Disorders

Lyme disease patients often suffer mental disorders like difficulty concentrating, confusion, and short-term memory loss.

Meningitis is another symptom of Lyme disease, which is a chronic condition. It is a swelling of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. [4]

It is best to begin treatment for Lyme disease before it reaches the late stage where mental disorders occur. Complications caused by these mental disorders may take up to several years before they alleviate.

Swollen Lymph Nodes or Sore Throat

The borreliosis bacteria that cause Lyme disease can stay in the lymph nodes, triggering an immune response. This causes the lymph nodes to swell or inflame, but it doesn’t kill or reduce the potency of the bacterium.

If left untreated, the lymph nodes can continue to enlarge. Antibiotics are effective in improving this symptom.
