Nostalgic Depression: What It Is & How to Cope with It

How nostalgic depression was observed

Scientists described nostalgia as a mental health disorder at some time. An expert in the late 1600s first used it to explain the anxiety, abnormal eating patterns [2], insomnia [3], and homesickness experienced by soldiers when they were fighting away from home. After some years, scientists began to describe it as a sad depression caused by homesickness and losing a loved one

In the late 1900s, the difference between nostalgia and homesickness was made clearer by a sociologist known as Fred Davis. Other scientists did further research and explained its potential negative and positive effects.
