Symptoms of postpartum depression

It is quite common among pregnant women to feel sad, empty, moody, or fatigued within a few days if given birth, this condition is nicknamed “baby blues.” But postpartum depression goes beyond that, lasting for weeks after you give birth. Its symptoms can be severe and interfere with your ability to function.

The symptoms vary from person to person and from day to day. The symptoms usually start with the first three weeks after giving birth. Postpartum depression can affect your connection with your baby, making it seem as though you don’t love your baby. Other indications of postpartum depression include:

  • Constantly feeling sad or crying
  • Having thoughts of hurting the baby
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Lack of interest in tbe baby
  • No motivation and energy
  • Feeling worthless, guilty, or like you are a bad parent
  • Feeling anxious
  • Change in Relationship with food
  • Excessive sleeping
  • Having chronic heartaches, pains, aches, or stomach problems

It is important to know that postpartum depression does not mean that you are a bad parent, and it’s not your fault. If you notice symptoms, it is best to talk to a healthcare professional and seek treatment to feel better.
