Cognitive processing therapy

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is based on the idea that immediately after a trauma, you were not able to fully process what happened to you.
While attempting to understand the event and its effects on you, you might later come to conclusions that are not healthy.
Some possible negative conclusions include that it’s not safe to trust anyone, or you might believe that you are to blame for what happened.
CPT is designed to identify those negative conclusions and restructure them in healthier ways. This kind of therapy usually takes place in around 12 seasons, during which you work closely with your therapist to process what happened through talking or writing about the experience.
