5 Symptoms of Ocular Migraine

Headaches That Last Long Periods

Migraines cause severe throbbing headaches that may go on for hours. If you have ocular migraine, headache episodes may persist for about four hours. In some cases, the headache continues for as long as 72 hours.

Headaches caused by ocular migraine affect only one side of the head. The pain feels like a throb or pulsation. It may be moderate or severe, sometimes interfering with your normal activities. Ocular migraine headaches often feel worse when you move around or perform activities that make your head move.

Increased Light Sensitivity

Light sensitivity is known as photophobia. It is normal to react sensitively to bright light sources, especially when you’ve been in a dimly lit place. If you are dealing with photophobia, this sensitivity to light will be heightened. You may feel uncomfortable or experience a mild, throbbing pain in your eyes when you’re out in the sun or exposed to bright lights indoors.

Light sensitivity [6] is linked to the connection between the optic nerves that transmit light signals to your brain and the cells of your eyes. It isn’t a medical condition it itself. It is a symptom of an underlying condition. Migraines are a common cause of this problem. If you have ocular migraine, you may have an increased sensitivity to light both when you have active headaches and when you do not. Photophobia can be severe enough to require the use of dark sunglasses.
