Vision Problems

Visual problems are one of the most common symptoms of MS. This happens when the optic nerve that connects the eye to the brain gets inflamed. It is called optic neuritis [7].
Inflammation affects the optic nerve and disrupts the vision which, can lead to loss or blurred vision [8]. Vision problems might not be noticed immediately. With optic neuritis, pain when you to the side or when you look up might also accompany vision loss.
Occasionally, the cranial nerves or brainstems can be involved, thereby causing double vision or eye movement problems. These are three common vision symptoms of MS;
- Diplopia [9]― double vision
- Nystagmus [10]― an erratic movement of the eye, often called “dancing eyes.”
- Optic neuritis [11]― inflammation of the optic nerve.
