Multiple Sclerosis – Age of Onset, Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment and More

MS Age of Onset

People between the ages of 20-40 usually experience Adult-onset MS (AOMS). Multiple sclerosis can occur in older adults, teens, and in some cases, children. Children diagnosed with pediatric MS are often in the CIS or RRMS stage. They may also recover faster than adults who have the condition because total recovery occurs in the RRMS stage.

Pediatric multiple sclerosis is difficult to detect because it has similar characteristics to acute demyelinating encephalomyelitis (ADEM). It can result in severe disability at an early stage.

Late-onset multiple sclerosis occurs when symptoms in adults appear first after 50 years. According to research, about 10 percent of MS diagnosis is LOMS.

In most cases, a late diagnosis occurs when you don’t get medical treatment after detecting moderate sensory symptoms.
