The MS Hug: Symptoms, Triggers, Treatments & More

What do you do when you have an MS hug?

If you have had an MS hug before and you are able to identify it anytime it occurs again, you don’t need to visit your healthcare provider. However, if you are experiencing the sensation for the first time, you will have to visit your doctor for medical attention. Breathing difficulties and extreme pains require urgent medical attention.

If you have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and you experience the tingling sensation of an MS hug for the first time, you should quickly visit your doctor for proper treatment. You doctor will want to know the following details

  • How long it lasted
  • Whether it started gradually or abruptly
  • If it stopped you from engaging in your regular activities or sleep
  • What activities exacerbated or improved it

Your doctor will also need to find out what type of pain you are experiencing. It could be:

  • Sharp pain in the sides
  • A tickling, uncomfortable sensation
  • A burning sensation
  • Tightness or a pressing feeling
