How to Prevent Muscle Strain?

Do not reinjure a strained muscle. Studies show that reinjuring a strained muscle may worsen the injury and cause other severe muscle injuries. You can prevent a muscle strain from recurring by:

  • Warming up before exercise or intense activity
  • Giving it enough time to heal from an injury
  • Stretching your muscles every day
  • Properly hydrating during exercise
  • Eating foods high in potassium [5], like bananas and avocados, before exercise to prevent muscle fatigue [6]
  • Cross-training for sports by weightlifting or choosing another activity that doesn’t require excess pressure
