Adequate consumption of fluids and dietary fiber help prevent constipation. Parkinson’s disease can affect the muscles involved in chewing and swallowing. This can discourage people with the condition from consuming enough fiber and fluids.

Medication

There are several medications that are used to treat Parkinson’s and related symptoms. Many of which have been traced to having constipation as a side effect. Examples of such drugs include anticholinergic medications, [4] such as trihexyphenidyl (Artane) and benztropine mesylate (Cogentin), and certain antidepressants, such as fluoxetine (Prozac).
