Radiculopathy – An Overview

Causes of Radiculopathy

Radiculopathy can be brought on by anything that squeezes or irritates the roots of your spinal nerves, such as:

  • traumas from collisions in cars or falls
  • a herniated disc (also called a bulging, slipping, or burst disc)
  • growth of bone spurs on one of your vertebrae

Aside from aging, there are several non-direct causes of radiculopathy. Your spine’s discs and bones become less flexible and shaped as you get older. The normal weakening and degeneration of your spine can alter it to the point where a nerve is pinched.
