Nasal Irrigation

Using a bulb syringe or a neti pot, one can also gently flush the saline solution through their nostrils. This can help clear the nasal cavity and get rid of irritants so that other medications can be absorbed more easily.
Nasal rinses can be bought over-the-counter. Always carefully read the instructions on the container and heed their advice.
Another way to prepare a nasal rinse at home is:
- Prepare the salon solution described above.
- Draw the saline solution into the bulb syringe or pour it into the neti pot
- Lean on a washbasin and gaze into the basin. With the left cheek parallel to the washbasin, tilt the head to the left.
- Just inside the right nostril, place the syringe or neti pot’s spout.
- Gently squeeze or pour half of the saline solution into the right nostril while breathing normally through your mouth. After a few seconds, the other nostril should release the solution.
- Any solution that trickles into your mouth, spit it out.
- Blowing the nose gently will help remove any leftovers.
- Apply the same technique to the other nostril.
To stop the solution from getting into your eyes or down the back of your throat, tilt your head as indicated.
Create a new saline solution and ensure the neti pot or bulb syringe is clean before use.
