Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – Symptoms and Causes

Straining or Groaning to Urinate and Inability to Urinate

Passing out urine should be a seamless and very easy process. However, when a person has BPH they may constantly strain or groan when trying to pass urine. This is due to the lack of control and coordination in the bladder and the inability of the bladder to pass out urine seamlessly.

Inability to urinate is considered the final symptom of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Once a person is unable to urinate at all, they require an immediate medical emergency and this is the stage BPH has completely plagued the prostate and the bladder is unable to control urination at all. Such patients may require surgery to be able to expel urine again by themselves or may have to use a catheter, a thin tube that helps urination during surgical procedures and afterward.
