Researchers believe genetics play a role in the development of psoriasis. The exact way this happens is not fully understood yet. Psoriasis tends to run in families. You are more likely to develop psoriasis if you have a close relative with the condition. Many genes have been linked to the development of psoriasis [2] in several studies. Like many conditions where genetics play a role, it is more likely that this condition is the result of the action of multiple genes that predispose a person to psoriasis. While genetics plays a role in the development of the condition, having genes that predispose a person to psoriasis does not necessarily mean the person will develop the condition.
