Sciatica Symptoms and Causes

Tumor

Tumors are abnormal growth that may be cancerous or benign. When these tumors develop in the sciatic nerve or lower spine, it causes pain that is sciatica. Tumors are lumps filled with abnormal cells, which may cause blockages along the nerve, tampering with neurotransmitters and overall health. [8]

A spinal tumor means an abnormal mass of cancerous or noncancerous tissue around the spinal column or spinal cord. Sciatica caused by tumors requires immediate medical attention as they may progress to further complications. Complications include severe pain, loss of bladder and bowel control, numbness, weakness or pain in the leg and significant weight loss.

In situations where the pain persists or you feel paralysis and impaired bladder or bowl function, it’s important to seek clinical treatment; if the growth is malignant or cancerous, it may require immediate surgery to prevent death. The surgical or medical treatment will be performed according to patients’ overall health condition, age and tolerance level.
