Taking Painkillers

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), [8] such as ibuprofen (Advil) and naproxen, can both be used to treat mild discomfort (Aleve).
Corticosteroids or opioid painkillers may be necessary for more severe pain, but older persons who are taking many medications that may interact with opioid painkillers should carefully consider the usage of these treatments and their potential side effects.
Antibiotics for Viruses
An antiviral drug is the principal tool to combat a shingles outbreak. For both older individuals and younger people, three types—acyclovir, valacyclovir, and famciclovir—have received approval.
The most effective medication may be acyclovir (Zovirax), but it must be taken in five times daily, which can be difficult for an elderly person. The more frequently prescribed antiviral for older shingles patients is valacyclovir (Valtrex). It needs to be taken three times each day and normally has minor negative effects.
