Other skin conditions caused by HIV

Skin conditions are common in people with HIV. Some of these skin conditions might be because of HIV, while others may be because of other factors such as some drugs used to treat HIV.

Some of these conditions include;

Dermatitis:

Dermatitis is a common skin condition and it includes different types such as:

  • Atopic Dermatitis
  • Xerosis Cutis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis
  • Photodermatitis [2]
  • Eosinophilic folliculitis
  • Prurigo nodularis

Some other skin conditions can be caused by other infections including;

  • Syphilis: this is a sexually transmitted disease that usually starts with a painful sore in your mouth and genitals. A rash may appear 4 to 10 weeks later.
  • Candidiasis: this causes a red or discoloured itchy rash to appear in the folds of your skin, yeast in the mouth, and painful cracks at the corners of your mouth.
  • Herpes: it appears as fluid-filled sores or blisters at the corners of the mouth.
  • Genital warts: they are dark, flesh-coloured bumps that appear on the genital areas. The bumps look like cauliflower.
  • Shingles: this leads to painful blisters and skin rashes.

  • Molluscum contagious
