Blisters: Caused and Prevention

Prevention

You can prevent blistering by avoiding or removing the cause of the blister. For example, friction blisters can be prevented by removing the cause of the friction. You can prevent friction blisters via various ways, including:

Avoiding Blisters on the Feet

To avoid blisters on the feet, you can wear well-fitted, comfortable footwear and clean socks. You are more likely to develop blisters if you wear badly fitted shoes, like high heels. Moist skin tends to blister more easily, so socks that manage moisture or frequent sock changes can help reduce blisters.

During exercise and sports, specially designed sports socks can reduce the amount of available foot sweat. Also breaking in walking or hiking boots before going on a long trek also helps prevent blisters.

You can also apply tape, padding, or moleskin to trouble spots to help prevent blisters from appearing on your skin. You can also purchase friction-management patches which are applied to the inside of shows.
