How to Differentiate a Carbuncle from Other Skin Disorders
According to studies, the most obvious first symptom of a carbuncle is a red, irritated lump located beneath your skin. You may feel pain anytime you touch it. It can be as small as a lentil or as big as a medium-sized mushroom. The lump usually increases in size after some days. This is because it becomes filled with pus. It then develops a yellow-white tip or “head” that will rupture and drain the pus. You may also experience swelling in nearby regions.
To identify a carbuncle, here are other symptoms to look out for:
- Fever and chills
- Itching before the lump appears
- Bodily aches
- Skin crustiness or oozing
- Fatigue
Pus usually starts to appear after one day of carbuncle formation.
