Chickenpox vs. Shingles—What’s the Difference?

Symptoms of chickenpox vs. shingles

Chickenpox

The symptoms of chickenpox usually occur for four to seven days. Itchy, painful rash with fluid-filled vesicles or blisters that become scabs are the most seen manifestations. The rash mostly starts on the chest, then it may go to other areas of the body which include the face, eyelids, back, mouth, and genital areas.

Studies show that it takes less than 7 days for all blisters to become scabs. In some cases, your skin might be completely covered with blisters and scabs. Symptoms that may occur a day or two before the rash begins are:

  • Fatigue [4]
  • Loss of appetite [5]
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Body aches and chills

The presence of rash in children is the first sign of the condition and symptoms such as fatigue and loss of appetite often do not occur before the breakout.
