The heat from a steam cleaner will kill scabies mites. To clean your mattress, use high-temperature steam that’s at least 140°F (60°C).
Permethrin Spray
Permethrin spray [2] is a liquid solution that’s effective as a disinfectant for surfaces that can’t be washed. Permethrin is an insecticide that’s used to kill scabies mites.
The use of permethrin spray requires proper guidance. It is important that you follow the directions. In general, you might need to avoid the room for about 30 minutes. You might also need to avoid using the mattress for at least 12 hours.
Plastic Cover
You can use a plastic cover for some days, this will prevent physical contact between people and the scabies. Without human contact, the scabies there should die in 2 to 3 days.
For its effectiveness, it is important that the plastic cover properly fits your bed. You can buy plastic mattress protectors online or at big-box stores like Target or Walmart.
