How to Remove the Core of a Boil?

Procedures to Remove a Core

It has been stated above that only medical professionals are the best options to drain the pus filled center of the boil. However, this drainage process must follow some hygienic and medical steps. These steps are:

  • Antiseptic: This is a substance that reduces the rate of growth of microbes and germs. This is used by the doctor to clean the surroundings of the affected area.
  • Numbness of the area: This is the use of anesthesia [3] to reduce the pain around the boil.
  • Lancing: This is the use of sharp tools to cut open the skin. These tools may include needles and scalpel. The doctor releases the infected matter through this technique.
  • Surgical incision: These are the cuts made due to a surgical process. This incision makes the drainage of the pus easier.
  • Cleaning: the boil is cleaned with the use of sterile saline solution to irrigate the area. Proper dressing with the use of a bandage is done afterwards. In some cases, when the boil is deep, it is possible the pus is not drained completely at once. The doctor then uses a sterile gauze to pack the affected area to help dry up the pus that is remaining.
  • Medication: Some boils may cause fever and skin infections. The doctor prescribes an antibiotic such as trimethoprim (Bactrim) to treat such situations. For boils on the face, antibiotics [4] are prescribed for better treatment.
