Jock itch can happen to anyone. However, the condition is more common among adolescent and young adult men. Men are three times more likely to get jock itches than women. It is rare in children. Your chances of developing jock itch may increase if you have:

  • Obesity [1]
  • Diabetes [2]

Women can get jock itch, although it is not common among them. In women jock itch affects the groin, thigh and butt crack. It rarely affects the vulva (genitals).

Jock itch usually affects the skin around the groin area, butt cracks, and inner thigh. It rarely affects the genital (penis, scrotum or vulva).

Your skin may develop an itchy rash. You may also notice a change in color, your skin peel, crack or flake. Sometimes, tiny bumps or blisters may appear along the edge of your rash.
