Diabetes is a health condition that affects the ability of the body to process glucose in the blood, also known as blood sugar. Skin problems such as boils are one of the symptoms of diabetes. A person with diabetes is more susceptible to boils and it may take a longer period of time for the boils to heal. According to Nadia M. Khan, MD, [3] a doctor at Northwestern Medicine Central in Winfield, Illinois, ‘Diabetics are more susceptible to boils and other skin conditions, especially if they have an uncontrolled blood sugar level’. It is important to note that diabetes does not directly cause boils. The changes in the blood sugar levels [4] is what leaves the skin more susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections.
