Preventing Molluscum Contagiosum

Avoiding contacting the skin of someone who has molluscum contagiosum is the greatest strategy to avoid contracting the condition. You can stop the virus from spreading by implementing the following advice:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water.
  • Children should be taught proper hand cleaning practices because they tend to use touch more when playing and interacting with others.
  • Stay away from touching or picking at the obvious pimples on your skin.
  • Don’t distribute private items. This includes things like apparel, bar soaps, hairbrushes and towels.
  • Avoid using shared athletic equipment that may have had direct contact with bare skin.
  • To stop you or others from touching the bumps and spreading the infection, keep them clean and covered.
  • Do not shave or use electrolysis where the bumps are located.
  • Avoid sexual contact if you have bumps in the genital area.
