Types of acne scars
All scars may have similar characteristics, but they can be classified into different groups.
- Hypertrophic and keloid scars: They usually appear raised.
- Atrophic scars: According to research, this is the most common type of scarring. They appear pitted.
Pitted scars can be divided into three types. They include:
- Rolling scars: They appear shallow with soft, subtle edges and a wave-like contour.
- Box scars: They appear wider with properly defined edges.
- Ice pick scars: They may appear small, but they lie deep into the skin with a V or ice pick shape.
